Pearl Hotell Neumann sat on a stage at Spencerport High School in western New York on Dec. 22 to receive her diploma, WHAM-TV reported.

According to a news release from the Spencerport Central School District, Neumann, who grew up in Spencerport, was unable to complete her high school education because she had to work on the family farm in Monroe County.

“Her life has been devoted to family, work, and volunteer service, yet despite her successes and role as a community leader, she still regretted not receiving her diploma -- until now,” the school district stated in its release. “In addition to the diploma, Neumann will be included in the Class of 2023 display.”

Neumann, who was born on Sept. 24, 1922, spoke about her years with the 4-H Club in Spencerport and other activities during her long life. She gave a feisty speech to an appreciative audience.

“I’ve seen a lot in my time,” Neumann said after receiving her diploma from Spencerport High School Principal Sean McCabe. “I know, so-and-so is 100 years old, but damn it, I’m not dead yet.”
