A judge has cleared the release of the report compiled by now-former special counsel Jack Smith into President-elect Donald Trump’s efforts to interfere in the 2020 election.

The Associated Press reported Judge Aileen Cannon denied a motion by Trump’s former co-defendants that tried to block the first half of the report. She had temporarily blocked the Department of Justice from releasing it.

The investigation’s report was split into two volumes — the election interference case and the case involving the handling of classified documents.

The cases were dropped once Trump won reelection in November and Smith resigned from the DOJ effective Jan. 10. It was a footnote in a legal filing in Cannon’s court, Reuters reported.

Cannon, who was appointed to the bench during Trump’s first term, will hold a hearing about the second volume, CNN reported.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said last week he did not intend to make the classified document report public but would give lawmakers only the portion that covered the alleged interference, NBC News reported. The documents report, according to Garland, would not be released while the case against Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveria, the two co-defendants, is pending.

“All parties agree that Volume II expressly and directly concerns this criminal proceeding,” Cannon wrote in the decision on Monday, the AP reported. “All parties also appear to agree that public release of Volume II would be inconsistent with the fair trial rights of Defendants Nauta and De Oliveira and with Department of Justice Policy governing the release of information during the pendency of criminal proceedings.”

A hearing is set for Friday on whether to release the second report.
