According to a post on the Richland Fire Department’s Facebook page, firefighter Shane Ledford was working his other job for a trash pickup company when he found the puppy with its head stuck inside an empty can of Campbell’s Chunky Soup.

Fortunately for the dog, Ledford had recently participated in a first aid class for pets several days earlier, the fire department said.

Ledford did not use any special tools, although he had to be wary of the puppy’s angry mother, WKYT-TV reported. He was able to “extricate the puppy” and reunite it with its mother.

“So often we only see pain and destruction. For once it’s nice to share a post with a happy ending and enjoy a laugh or two,” the fire department wrote on Facebook. “And we now know we are capable of these types of technical rescues.”
