NEW YORK — While shoppers may not be flocking to stores, instead they’re scanning the web for holiday deals. The tradition of stores putting on elaborate holiday window displays has not changed amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Flagship stores in New York City have pulled out all the stops once again this year to bring some holiday cheer to what may feel like a bleak season for some.
Macy’s is using the windows of the Herald Square landmark to honor essential workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, CNN reported.

More than 100 artists, animators, electricians and lighting experts helped assemble the six displays over about two weeks.
Each display says “thank you” on a different New York City scene.
They will be on display until Jan. 1 on the Broadway side of Herald Square.
Saks Fifth Avenue also has six different displays facing Fifth Avenue.

The scenes show how the city is celebrating this year since 2020 has brought challenges for so many, The New York Times reported.
One window shows a dinner party held with COVID-19 precautions, another shows a food truck outside of an apartment building.
The windows also are highlighted by a light show on the building’s facade.
At Bloomingdale’s, the six windows are awash with scene-specific primary colors to elicit emotions: Yellow for smiles, green for comforting snuggles, for example, the Times reported.
